It’s never too late to make a change!!

It’s never too late to make a change!!

We often hear the phrase “I’m too old for that”! We hear a lot of excuses at Compass Physio in relation to not doing exercises or changing habits that can improve your health. The video below is a great example of how you can start to make a change if you put your mind to it. I appreciate the video is quite long, but it’s worth the time. As Chartered Physiotherapists our team of professionals are trained to help you recover from whatever physical slump you’re in. This can also help improve your mental well being as exercise is a great way to maintain a a healthy mind. We’ve put together four examples of how you can get moving again, if you haven’t done so in a while.

Clubs: Joining a club is the best way to start moving again. It doesn’t even have to be an exercise club, it could be something as simple as a bridge club or mens shed. This will get you out of the house and get you back to socialising and interacting with people again. Group exercise is always easier than doing things alone.

Start Small: Walking is a very simple way to start regaining your fitness. You don’t have to walk 10km to start…..simply walking around the house to begin with can make a huge difference. At Compass Physio we always encourage people to start small and build on what they’ve achieved. If you’re able to walk for 10 mins a day, then aim for 11 mins the next day and build it up slowly each day. We have great facilities with walking tracks all around the country, so there is no excuse (Apart from bad weather – see tip below)

Indoor Exercises: In the ideal scenario you should do your exercises outside, however mobility and weather can be an issue as we get older. Doing some basic chair exercises, aqua aerobics or using an exercise bike can be great ways to maintain a healthy body without having to go outside.

Turn off the TV: It’s very easy to get stuck in a rut. You come in from work, have your dinner, put the kids to bed and then sit in front of your phone or TV. You’re body is designed to move, by doing 20 mins of simple indoor exercise or going for a brisk walk, you can keep your body well maintained.
