Compass Physio is a first class chartered physiotherapy service in North Kilkenny and Enfield County Meath, bringing physio, dry needling, rehabilitation & onsite workplace physiotherapy to the wider community.

The main role of physiotherapy is to restore and maintain normal functional movement as part of a preventative or rehabilitation programme in an aim to help to reduce pain and increase activity in those treated.

In short, physiotherapy helps to get you back to your best allowing you to live your life to the fullest in the most time effective manner that our treatments allow for.

The range of conditions treated is wide ranging and includes:

  • Spinal pain including back and neck pain
  • Sports Injuries (From walking aches to professional athletes)
  • Fractures (e.g. broken arm)
  • Post Surgical rehabilitation (e.g. Total Knee replacement)
  • Headaches
  • Biomechanical insufficiencies
  • Arthritis

Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a form of needling adapted from Acupuncture. Dry needling uses the physiotherapist’s palpation skills to identify taught bands in the muscle known as myofascial trigger points.

Once identified the clinician inserts the needle into the taught band carefully considering the surrounding nerves and muscles. Many of these points correspond with those used in Acupuncture.

Stimulation of trigger points using Dry Needling can reduce the levels of pain causing chemical’s in the trigger point. The body reacts to this stimulus by relaxing the muscle and spasm and thus reducing the pain. Increased blood flow comes into the area which helps to speed up the healing process

The needles can trick the brain by limiting the pain signals from the brain to the trigger point.

Dry Needling can be used to treat conditions such as:

  • Myofascial Pain
  • Low back Pain
  • Neck pain
  • Headache/migraine
  • Muscle tension

Post Operative Care

We specialise in getting you back to your best following a surgical procedure. At Compass Physio our team specialise in assisting our clients in returning to optimal strength, function and mobility after surgery.

Our physiotherapists work along side some of Ireland’s leading orthopaedic consultants and share their knowledge base for post-surgical rehabilitation.

The Compass Physio team attend regular clinical updates to ensure we remain up to date with surgical advances. We are passionate about working closely with our patients consultants to ensure we can provide the pinpoint accuracy when providing recommended treatment programmes, to help make sure everything is tailored towards the individual’s needs.

It’s not a rarity to see us observing our clients surgical procedures to ensure we know as much as possible about the treatment so we can continue to deliver our expert care throughout the rehabilitation period safe in the knowledge we have full coverage of the patients needs.

Dependant on the surgical procedure the rehabilitation process can be long & with focused treatment and exercise, patients can reduce recovery time significantly.

Rehabilitation is unique for each surgery, but normally involves a graduated strengthening programme in conjunction with specific hands-on techniques to restore correct joint mobility and muscle flexibility.

We create individual treatment plans and practical goals that aim to restore a normal life and in most cases improve your level of pre surgery strength and fitness.
