You’re stuck in a rut…. You haven’t done anything for yourself in years, you feel you’re out of shape….Does any of this sound familiar? At Compass Physio in Kilkenny, Louth and Meath, we constantly advise people to become more active and healthier. We see how the modern lifestyle of working long hours and having a more sedentary life compared to our parents and grandparents is having a negative impact on our health. One of the ways to combat this problem is by joining a club to become more active. Ideally not a beer or wine tasting club! So here are 5 benefits to joining a new club.
You learn a new skill: Whether it’s doing lip sync for your local club or joining a dance class there is always a new skill you can learn. Learning new skills has been proven to prevent early onset of degenerative changes in the brain and the body. Most clubs are always looking for new members to join and bring new ideas to the existing members. Also learning a new skills can be great fun.
You meet new people: Meeting new people is one of the best reasons to join a club, if you’re new to an area it is a great way to help settle in to the local community. Exercise is always easier to do with someone else by your side.
Accountability: If you pay for something you are more likely to use and value that service. For example if you pay €50 a month for membership of a sports club then the chances staying fit and healthy are probably higher because you don’t want to waste €50. Getting reminders from coaches and other club members to go training is a great motivator to get up of your butt and move!
Stress relief: Exercise, playing cards, drama groups etc are all great ways to reduce your stress levels. We live in a very busy world and joining a club can give you some much needed time for yourself, away from work, kids, home life ….
Healthier: Studies show that isolation has a big impact on your physical and mental health. Joining a club will reduce your risk of isolation and improve both your physical and mental health.
If you’re still not sure what club would suit you best because of injury or general fitness please pop into any of our clinics and we can point you in the right direction.
